Frederick Julius Huegel (1889–1971) was born in the United States to German immigrant parents. As a young man, he initially studied English literature and philosophy in college. However, his search for meaning culminated in his conversion to Christ after reading Anglican author F.W. Farrar’s The Life of Christ. Later, Huegel sensed God’s call to Christian ministry. He served as a chaplain in World War I; spent over 25 years as a missionary in Mexico, where he taught at Union Seminary in Mexico City; evangelized in prisons; and traveled extensively, speaking at conferences to encourage preachers and missionaries.
About the book. When it comes to explaining the doctrine of sanctification, there are numerous views and biases. Some are prone to dismiss authors and Bible teachers who assert that the scriptures teach that the indwelling Christ can enable a believer to live a victorious life over the world, the flesh, and the Devil. However, F. J. Huegel believed and identified with those in the Body of Christ who taught (and teach) otherwise in accordance with New Testament teaching. With conviction, he taught that those who have died with Christ, been raised with Christ, and have been seated with Christ in the Heavenlies are accorded rights and privileges through our victorious Lord. Huegel believed that many, if not most, Christians are living far beneath God’s high calling for them and have settled for a subnormal Christian life. He did not advocate the erroneous teaching of sinless perfection for a believer, but he did believe through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit that one’s walk with Christ should be one of consistent obedience.
