Walking, as used in the sacred Scriptures, is a metaphorical composite concerning one’s total person: our thoughts, desires, intentions, priorities, pursuits, and activities.

The Bible says, “Enoch walked with God” (Gen. 5:22, 24). What better commendation could the inspired writer say of a person than that they walked with God—purposefully, steadfastly, faithfully, daily? Enoch died at the age of 365. However, he spent three centuries of those 365 years walking in intimacy with the Lord God.

Believers are constantly urged by the Holy Spirit to “walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,” “walk in newness of life,” “walk by faith,” “walk in love, and “walk by the Spirit (Dt. 10:12; Rom. 6:4; 2 Cor. 5:7; Eph. 5:2; Gal. 5:16).

To walk with God daily is available to each follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. In the words of John R. MacDuff (1818-1895), “God can be glorified in little things as well as great things, and by nothing more than the daily walk, the daily life.”
